Orientation, Shinjuku

After a few days rest and acclimatisation, today was our first working day in Japan - attending NOVA orientation in Shinjuku, one of the high-rise districts of Tokyo. As you can see from the photo, it meets all the preconceptions one has of modern-day Tokyo - the high skyline, pavements bustling with people and colourful electronic signs on every building... very impressive and quite a contrast to Swindon!

Shinjuku does seem to be modern day Tokyo personified for a Westerner. I personally found it overwhelming and exactly what I expected Tokyo to be. If you ever visit, stop by the Metropolitan Government Offices and go to the observatory on the 39th floor - amazing views of Tokyo and beyond to Mount Fuji (on a clear day!)
